Melasma Makeup

Melasma, also known as chloasma is a darkening of the skin or hyperpigmentation problem that often occurs in adult women and is believed to be triggered by the hormones of pregancy, as most women get it during or after pregnancy. The condition of melasma or chloasma is sometimes called 'the mask of pregnancy', but we do not like this term as the condition can occur completely independent of pregnancy.

Your dermatologist can prescibe presciption hydroquinone bleaches that are creams or lotions for this condition. They will require repeated application to fade the condition and fading is usually temporary, lasting for just several weeks, after which the skin will begin to darken again. The biggest complaint with these hydroquinone bleaches is that they are irritants, often leaving the skin reddened, sometimes brightly reddened because of chemical burning with can be as unsightly as the darkening the bleach is supposed to alleviate.
